Conservative Therapy
Overview
Some venous conditions do not require medical procedures to treat; instead, they can be effectively managed with the use of compression stockings or lifestyle changes. At South Bend Vein Center, we stock a wide range of compression stockings, so you can rest assured we will have the right treatment for your needs. These stockings provide the right amount of pressure to reduce swelling and discomfort caused by varicose veins, while improving vascular function in the lower legs.
Candidates for Conservative Therapy
When you come in to South Bend Vein Center for your compression stocking fitting, we will take measurements of your lower leg. It is very important to get a proper fit with your stockings, to ensure they work effectively in moving blood out of your legs more efficiently. While these stockings can offer some improvement to venous conditions, they are not a cure. For patients who require vein removal therapies, our South Bend staff can discuss your options as well
About the Conservative Therapy
Sometimes compression bandaging is used in addition to, or in place of, compression stockings. These specialized dressings may be used after a vein removal therapy or in the treatment of a venous ulcer. As the area heals, the compression bandage will slowly be loosened, until it can be removed altogether. This may take several weeks with some more stubborn venous conditions.
After the Procedure
Not everyone with a venous condition requires immediate medical treatment. For some, the use of compression stockings can minimize symptoms associated with varicose veins sufficiently. Our South Bend office can help you decide if compression stockings should be your first line of defense against your venous condition.
